Recap
By now Zaryab is married to Abu Bakar and living in Hyderabad with Khushbakht, while he works in Karachi and comes home at weekends. She misses Zamil openly, even to her mother-in-law, and wonders whether he misses her. She can see through Zamil, she tells herself, but not through Abu Bakar. Not yet.
City life feels far away. On the phone to her mother she lists what she cannot get: deliveries, burgers, dark chocolate, avocado toast, decent internet. Khushbakht answers her rudeness with patience, feeds her by hand and teaches her to pick stones out of lentils. Zaryab also asks the helper Sakina to find someone outside the family who can read her a text written in Sindhi.
Abu Bakar comes home after a week and finds her asleep in his room. Late that night he makes two cups of coffee ("I'm an engineer, I'm good at measurements") and they spar. He admits he thinks about her. He says he will never ask her to leave, and that the divorce she asked for can happen properly in three months. He does not want to be one of her regrets. "You already are," she says, and tells him she feels nothing for him.
